- Recover Ind | Romania Green Building Council
The RecoverIND project (Ecological and Innovative Technologies for recovering industrial areas from LCA and Energy Efficiency point of view) is funded by the Erasmus+ program and aims to deepen the interconnection between energy efficiency, Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), and the use of advanced technologies for building design and rehabilitation of the construction sector. SMAFIN Expanded Project The SMAFIN Expanded project is a continuation and enhancement of previous efforts to promote smart financing for energy efficiency investments across various sectors, including the tertiary sector and SMEs. Building on the success of the original SMAFIN roundtables, this expanded initiative welcomes Slovenia alongside Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, and Romania to create a more inclusive and effective platform for energy renovation discussions. SMAFIN Expanded aims to support energy-efficient renovation for both private and public buildings while encouraging investments in SMEs and the tertiary sector. The project focuses on creating opportunities for collaboration, knowledge transfer, and the implementation of smart financing models to ensure that energy efficiency is effectively integrated into policies and practices across multiple regions. Recognizing the need for deeper investigation into energy efficiency topics and stakeholder privacy, the project employs thematic working groups. These groups tackle sector-specific challenges and foster collaboration, ensuring that energy financing strategies are tailored to the needs of each participant. The project also introduces cross-country labs designed to share best practices and introduce innovative financing solutions for energy efficiency. These labs serve as a bridge to transfer knowledge between EU countries and beyond, helping to establish common responses to energy challenges while promoting cooperation within the broader Balkan region. SMAFIN Expanded brings together a diverse range of stakeholders, including government bodies, financial institutions, ESCOs, industry representatives, SMEs, and citizen associations. The project aims to upgrade policy measures, develop financial instruments, and support large-scale investment programs that mobilize private funding for energy efficiency improvements. CROSS-COUNTRY LABS Fact Sheets: CROSS-COUNTRY LAB #1 – C4E Forum, Croatia - May 2025 CROSS-COUNTRY LAB #2 – Online - October 2025 Partners You can find more details about the program by accessing the dedicated website. Green Building Council Romania develops and implements the national green building standards and certification system, facilitates the availability of the most up-to-date and highest quality training to create the necessary pool of national green building experts; supports the development of best in class in-country green construction. ABOUT US The Romania Green Building Council We are a non-profit, apolitical association comprised of organizations active throughout the country. We promote environmental responsibility and energy efficiency throughout the entire life cycle of a building (from design and construction to operation and deconstruction). BACKGROUND The founding companies created the Romania Green Building Council in recognition of the following trends: Advanced technologies and designs, along with new thinking in energy efficiency financing. Growing exposure of eco-friendly buildings in the business sector, demonstrating that green architecture equates to smart business practices. Visionary companies’ interest in developing skills for excellence in construction and related industries, generating sustained profits. Projected local and global economic growth involving resource constraints and rising operational and construction costs. Environmental concerns and the political and social will to mitigate these issues. Need to enhance collaboration between industries, government, and civil society to eliminate barriers and align interests, ensuring rapid and comprehensive adoption of sustainable construction principles. Significant contribution of healthy, affordable, and energy-efficient housing to national wealth and security. Increased productivity, innovations, and other financial benefits from sustainable office and industrial space design. Appeal of eco-friendly design in shopping centers for both shoppers and owners. OBJECTIVES To promote market transformation and the implementation of a new generation of green buildings, the Romania Green Building Council: Facilitates access to cutting-edge training programs to create a national group of experts in the field. Supports the development of appropriate legislative measures to promote sustainable construction and ensure attractive return rates. Develops and implements a national system of standards and certifications for green buildings. Encourages the green construction industry to position Romania as a leader in sustainable building. Builds a complex organization by facilitating collaboration among market players to eliminate systemic barriers and promote a truly sustainable built environment. Promotes national, regional, and international collaboration to share knowledge and foster innovation. Researches, analyzes, and disseminates best practices for the region and encourages their adoption and implementation. - Circular Bim | Romania Green Building Council
The educational platform focused on advanced strategies of reinstatement of building materials in the industrial value chain to promote the transition to the Circular Economy through the use of BIM learning technologies. CircularBIM is an Open Educational Resource where you can find information about: ecological construction details, techniques for the use and reuse of construction materials, reduction of waste. Circular BIM The educational platform focused on advanced strategies for reframing construction materials in the industrial value chain to promote the transition to the circular economy by using BIM learning technologies The raw materials present on the planet are a limited resource and, in many cases, irrecoverable, which is why the current consumption pattern is destroying many of these resources. Therefore, investment in research is needed to promote new production models based on the revaluation and reuse of industrial waste. This approach encourages the study and search for new markets for these recovered resources, considered as waste. In this way, industries are encouraged to adapt to the circular economy model, providing environmental, social, and economic benefits essential for our planet. Traditionally, the productive model that supported the growth system of our society was based on the use of various available resources, which, after their introduction into the production chain and subsequent incorporation into the consumer chain, lost their properties and became waste. The inevitable destination was the landfill, thus perpetuating the paradigm of the linear economy that predominates in today's productive industry. The main problem underlying this linear system is the unsustainable consumption of resources, leading to pollution, accumulation of unused waste, exploitation of resources beyond their regeneration rate, and resource depletion due to excessive consumption. The key to initiating the waste transition process is the synergy between the waste generated by a technological process and useful renewable waste. According to the latest data provided by the EC on the circular economy, waste avoidance, greening, reuse, and other similar measures could save EU companies 8% of annual turnover, while reducing total annual greenhouse gas emissions by 2-4%. Moreover, the use of Building Information Modeling (BIM) can change the way architects and engineers work. This tool is able to present a three-dimensional design from the beginning of the project and provides information about each element that makes up the project. It facilitates the design, construction, and operation of a construction project. The idea of this project is to integrate all these elements into one software called CircularBIM - an open educational resource where you can find information about green buildings, techniques for the use and reuse of building materials, and waste reduction. Additionally, you can access free software to practice and obtain construction techniques that facilitate the reuse of materials used in buildings. In conclusion, the project unifies ILO and techniques for the revaluation and reuse of construction materials to create a useful tool for students and professionals in the construction sector (architecture, engineering, and construction) to implement in their daily work. The main objectives are: Raising awareness of the circular economy in the construction sector Reducing the production of waste from construction materials Reducing waste in the construction sector by reincorporating it into the value chain Providing information on the possibility of revaluing each element Offering free access to software for consulting and using techniques or methods for reusing building materials Coordinator Partners You can find more details about the program by accessing the dedicated website.
