Sustainable Landscaping is an important component for building projects seeking internationally recognized green buildings certifications such as LEED, BREEAM or DGNB certificates. Topics included: site analysis, design considerations, plant selection, and installation for successful results and maintenance. This course is valid for credit for those seeking the "Romania Green Building Professional" certification.
The RoGBC supported a seminar by Ms. Aurore Julien; an expert in designing green buildings. The very low cost event included a networking lunch and three and a half hours of instruction on topics including passive solar orientation, natural ventilation and daylighting, and tips for successful sustainable construction projects. This seminar was an abbreviated version of the "Green Design Principles" course that is part of the Romania Green Building Professional program. The seminar began at 11am and ends at 4:30pm on May 21 at Cinema Victorei in Cluj-Napoca.
We were pleased to announce the organization of a Transylvania chapter of our Green Building Council to better serve this region. The chapter benefited from the infrastructure of the national organization but will provide more local training, events, and regional focus for the benefit of local stakeholders. An information session for companies and person interest in being founding members of the Transilvania Chapter was held on May 21 at the Cinema Victorei in Cluj-Napoca at 5pm. Information about the Romania Green Building Council was presented along with ways on how you can get involved in the formation of the Transylvanian chapter.
The fifth edition of the International Conference of Social Responsibility, CSR’10 ‘Pulling in the Right Direction’, took place on the 25th and 26th of May at Hotel Intercontinental, Bucharest.Renowned specialists among whom: Richard Ellis (Alliance Boots), Rob Challis (Man Group), Guenther Juenger (Intel), Yannis Freris (Gefyra) attended CSR’10, to discuss on refreshing topics, offering efficient solutions applied to global needs and challenges.
Romania Green Building Council presented for the first time the “Romania Green Awards” during the fifth annual EuropaProperty SEE Real Estate Awards Gala for 2009 held at the SAS Radisson Hotel in Bucharest.
A full day course focused on understanding the availability, benefits, legislative requirements and specification considerations for using Sustainable Construction Materials in construction project. Important green design concepts such as "cradle to cradle" and embodied energy were presented.
RoGBC participated at the European Network Meeting that took place at the Consense Conference in Stuttgart. This meeting followed the International Congress and Trade Fair for Sustainable Building – The Consense.

The RoGBC organized another meet-up dedicated to creating an informal, yet informative dialogue between various green building stakeholders in the construction sector. The theme for the 1st of July Green Café was the “Ideas for transformational change in your project and in the industry”.
This course taught design techniques and the use of materials of technology and materials to minimize water usage in the construction and operation of buildings. The course included information on appliances, fixtures, and solutions that contribute toward points scored on voluntary building certification schemes such as LEED, BREEAM and DGNB.
This event highlighted export and investment prospects for green construction and related industries in high growth regions and discussed both the business opportunities and the chance to make a timely intervention to mitigate unsustainable practices in fast-growing markets. Steven Borncamp and Kevin Hydes provided a summary of multiple high growth markets. These markets share common characteristics, including significant new construction projected, a critical need for renovation and retrofit, and rapidly industrializing economies. In addition, Mr. Borncamp made a recap the presentations from the April 2010 Build Green CEE conference held in Budapest, Hungary.
The Romania Green Building Council hosted CUNDALL Engineering to provide two seminars on Sustainable Refurbishment and Green Facades: Design from the inside out. Participants from all construction disciplines were invited. Trainer: David Clark - CUNDALL Engineering.
RoGBC sent an invitation to come visit the Green Building Innovation Center to get information and meet companies active in sustainable construction, real estate and green tech activities. The Open House began at 10:00am and concluded at 5pm.
The RoGBC was pleased to welcome Sandy Mendler, AIA, LEED AP; Principal with Mithun (www.mithun.com) based in their San Francisco office and an expert in architecture and planning of Sustainable Urban Districts. Sandy presented the social, economic and environmental benefits that result from integrated design and planning of sustainable mixed use districts. Case studies were shared of current and ongoing projects to illustrate benefits and describe the processes employed to achieve them
