The US federal government's Environmental Protection Agency launched the ENERGY STAR Label for commercial buildings in 1998, the same year that the private sector organization, the US Green Building Council, brought to market the LEED Certification program for new construction. While some property types and some market sectors have seen robust activity in pursuit of sustainability and green, other markets appear under-stimulated and under-engaged. Citing conversations from the 5th Annual Conference on Sustainable Real Estate, held on February 26th at New York University, the conference chair will provide an overview of the state of the North American market place for sustainable and green real estate.
