The end of the year is a time for retrospection and planning. The RoGBC Legislative Outreach Task Group invited you to an evaluative discussion on the RoGBC legislative activities, as well as a planning session based on recommendations/feedback from members. All participants were warmly invited to the RoGBC Christmas Party afterwards.

RoGBC invited all green aficionados willing to share an evening together with us and our collaborators to our Christmas party. The doors have been open from 6 to 9pm, so participants stopped by for some mulled wine, gingerbread, and other season retreats.

On Thursday, December 10, in coordination with Copenhagen, the Romania Green Building Council and the Economic Section - US Embassy Bucharest prepared an informal Green Cafe on green building topics. The event included a video conference offered by the US Department of Commerce and the International Trade Administration (DOC/ITA) on Green Build US Technology.

This is the first event of this kind organized by ROFMA since its foundation. This event brought together locally and internationally reputed speakers who approached the topic in both tutorial and colloquial - interactive ways.

The RoGBC offered a low cost opportunity for green solution providers with an effective message of building awareness and generating sales for their solutions at the "Affordable Green" exhibition that took place at the newest bauMax store, a revolutionary green retail outlet in Ploiesti.

RoGBC Gold Member Corporate Office Solutions was pleased to invite you at the mixed launching event in Romania of InterfaceFLOR’s Autumn/Winter 2009 Collection of modular and sustainable carpet, and of the newly launched office furniture items from Steelcase.

Corina Truica represented the Romania Green Building Council at this event as a member of the debate panel addressing “Energy efficiency from education to implementation”.

Anca Bieru, Director of Membership & Public Affairs and Florin Dobrescu, Director & Representative in the Board for the Training and Certification Task Groups, participated as speakers to the 1st International Conference – Passive House in Romania, on 12th November 2009, in Palace Hall Bucharest. The topic their joint presentation has addressed is “Local Sustainability Policies and the Passive House Concept”.

The Electrical Engineering Students’ European Association (EESTEC) organized during 8-15 November the 3rd edition of the series of workshops “Energy Always a Challenge”, with the Romania Green Building Council as an Academic Partner.

The German Federal Ministry of Economy and the German-Romanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry lead a group of German entrepreneurs, representing companies that activate in the solar energy field, in order to develop bilateral economic relations. A two-day conference organized by the Association of Energy Auditors for Buildings (AAEC) in collaboration with the Commission of Industries and Services, with the support of the Chamber of Deputies. Anca Bieru, Director of Membership & Public Affairs, delivered a presentation on behalf of the RoGBC.

A RoGBC green building meetup dedicated to creating an informal, yet constructive dialogue between various stakeholders in the construction sector: designers, architects, technical consultants, engineers, developers, etc.

The Romania Green Building Council presented solutions for municipalities to promote green construction and benefit from sustained economic growth.

BIZ magazine organized the second edition of GreenBiz Forum, a full day event presenting green businesses, sustainable management practices and green marketing strategies. Once again the RoGBC was a Media Partner of the event. The International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) held a full day conference to cover, among other topics, "The Business Case for Creating Sustainable Shopping Centres" and "Trends in the Central & Eastern European Retail Market".

Steven Borncamp delivered a presentation on the "Emerging green building development in the SEE region", during EastEuro Link’s 6th Annual SEE Real Estate event that took place on September 25th, at the Rin Grand Hotel, in Bucharest.

The party, organized for the RoGBC members, celebrated one year since our official founding. Our anniversary has very good timing as it coincides with "World Green Building Day", a day where leaders of the sustainable construction industry bring notice to the importance and impact of our buildings on our environment and.. the opportunities for positive change. A workgroup discussion with RoGBC members and guests from the local public authorities on specific measures that could be implemented in order to encourage green building development.

Romania Green Building Council and WWF held a media event to bring attention to the economic opportunities related to reducing green house gas emissions and encourage Romanian officials to support strong action on climate change in December 2009 (Copenhagen Agreement). The event included a presentation of the position paper that the two organizations will address to the main decision makers in the area of climate change and environmental policies.

This event involved several thousand people, most of them from an area including the attractive tourism destinations Bran, Moeciu, Sirnea, and the city of Campulung Muscel and its neighboring area.

The member company Stardome demonstrated its prototype that was exhibited throughout the period, with free public access.

The project was the second information session for the planned high performance green building that will serve as the RoGBC office and green building exhibition center.

BIZ magazine hosted a one day event dedicated to the challenges, opportunities and implications of green businesses, of sustainable management practices and green marketing strategies. RoGBC was a Media Partner of the event and received the invitation of delivering a presentation on “Sustainable projects and green corporate culture in the construction sector”.

A half day event dedicated to presentations in the field of acclimatization, ventilation and energy savings.

UNDP marked the celebration of Environment Day by organizing in partnership with the Ministry of Environment a roundtable bringing together professionals from the government, the private sector and NGOs to discuss solutions and potential alliances on energy efficiency topics. Naturalpaint SRL hosted a demonstration to describe the benefits and successful techniques for the application of non-toxic, ecological paints and other coatings.
The Romania Green Building Council was invited to give a presentation at the 2009 Hospitality Forum organized by HRB Expert. The topic of the conference was "2009 - The year of change in the hotel industry".
A "green” workshop supported by the Romania Green Building Council during the Architecture Days 2009. The Garden Bookshop was meant to introduce the students into the practice of designing a pleasant and relaxing place using sustainable materials. A comprehensive event that had the mission to involve architecture students and the entire academic environment, specialists and the general public in activities meant to discuss the future and the past of the architectural environment in Romania and to explain the role of the ecological architecture in its present and future. The RoGBC held its annual meeting for members. The event included updates from management, questions and answers, and the results from the Board of Direction election for 2009. Steve Borncamp was invited to speak at this event organized by the United States Embassy in Prague. He will highlight the role of the Romania Green Building Council and its member companies in transforming the construction industry towards greater environmental responsibility.

A course to educate the Romanian marketplace on the advantages of green office policies, design, and renovation.The workshop discussed the principles of green design, green construction materials and other innovations in this field, emohasizing the advantages of designing flexible workspaces from a green perspective, as well as the necessary steps to implement green policies and procedures in your office.

This was an information session and collaborative workshop to discuss the construction of a privately financed, high performance green building. This event was open to RoGBC members only.
The Romania Green Building Council made a presentation at the German-Romanian Chamber of Commerce on "the private sector's role in increasing energy efficiency in buildings.
At the request of Mayor Oprescu's office and the new, but very active NGO "Green Revolution", the Romania Green Building Council is helping to organize a green renovation of a multifunctional day care center for pre-School children in Herastrau Park.
The Romania Green Building Council supported WWF Romania by encouraging the RoGBC member companies and others to sign up for "Earth Hour". Participating companies agreed to shut off the lights in their building on 28 March at 8:30pm for one hour "to make a global statement of concern about climate change and to demonstrate a commitment to finding solutions”. A workshop to assist manufacturers, designers, and other solution providers in understanding the options available, necessary steps, and opportunities related to green construction principles. A full day course to educate the Romanian marketplace on the benefits the roof gardens bring to the buildings and the city. The workshop covered the green roof design principles and the available technologies, useful in the design implementation and completion of projects, and included relevant examples from around the world. The Romania Green Building Council had an exhibit on sustainable construction at “Sustainability in Architecture - Dutch-Romanian Ideas on Saving Energy in Buildings”. This event was organized by the Royal Netherlands Embassy in Bucharest and SenterNovem, the Agency for Innovation and Sustainable Development of the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs.
The Romania Green Building Council has arranged an exhibit on sustainable construction activity in Romania and made a short presentation at "Romania & Climate Change" - a conference organized by the European Commission.
A workshop to demonstrate the business case for integrating energy efficiency and environmental responsibility into the hospitality sector. The event provided timely and useful training for decision makers, staff and solution providers on topics such as: green design and renovation principles, new materials, technologies and solutions and their return on investment, as well as practical knowledge about legislative requirements and fiscal incentives. The RoGBC participated with a presentation on the "Role of the Private Sector in Increasing Energy Efficiency in the Construction Industry" at a half day workshop organized by the Ministry of Environment, the Environment Fund Administration, the Bucharest Chamber of Commerce and Industry, in partnership with Sustainable Energy Europe.

A full day workshop to educate architects, engineers and other solution providers about green design principles and the information technology that supports the discipline. The workshop was interactive and discussed green design principles, solar orientation, energy and day lighting considerations, and reviewed IT solutions, benefits and possibilities.

This was a cocktail and light dinner reception open to RoGBC members, their invitees, and the participants of the "Green Design Principles and the Enabling Technologies" workshop occurring earlier in the day. The event started at 6pm.

Steven Beckers of ART & BUILD Architects, provided a brief presentation of two green building projects – One for the Council of Europe and another private, mixed-use development.
  • December 11 – Green Café for Sustainable Architecture -An informal meeting for architects, technical consultants and other interested parties. The Cafe included a movie "Last Call for Planet Earth" - an interview with 12 leading architects who share their vision on sustainable architecture, moderated discussions and a networking session.
  • November 27 – Participation in the Conference “The Building Energy Audit- a must for today” - Organized by AAEC. Steven Borncamp gave a presentation on "The Role of the Green Building Councils in encouraging rapid transformation towards greener construction "
  • November 26-28 - EcoMediu Fair in Arad. Romania Green Building Council participated in the EcoMediu Fair between Novermber 26-28.
